Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A partially hanging body was discovered in the Tiljala police station area, specifically at Nandi Bagan Road, Vinay Singh Colony, late Wednesday evening. The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Meena Kuwar. The local police were alerted after Meena's sister, based in Bengaluru, called the police emergency number 100, following a distressing phone call from a man who lived with Meena, claiming she had committed suicide.
Upon receiving the information, officers from Tiljala police station rushed to the scene and found the door to the room open. Forensic experts were also called to the site to assist with the investigation. Meena Kuwar was a bar dancer at the Ashoka Hotel, and her documents indicated her address as Bengaluru. The police have retrieved the phone number of the man she was living with, but have been unable to contact him so far.
Neighbors reported that Meena was a reclusive individual who rarely interacted with those around her. Her body has been sent to NRS Medical College Hospital for a postmortem examination. While the initial assumption by the police is that it may be a case of suicide, the actual cause of death will be confirmed following the postmortem report.
The police have launched a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death, with efforts underway to locate and question the man she lived with.
